About Us
We do not rush our training. And we will NEVER push a dog to do something that it isn’t ready for.
About Us
At Instinctive K9, we believe that good training starts with understanding the dog in front of you and the goals of the person behind it. Every dog that comes through our program is trained differently, because no two dogs are the same and no two clients want the same thing. Some of those differences are minor and some are significant, but every decision we make is with the intention of doing what is best for you and your dog.
We have worked with plenty of dogs that were written off as untrainable or had been through programs that just did not click. More often than not, the issue was not the dog. We regularly work with advanced reactivity and aggression cases, and have a strong track record of taking dogs that other trainers have turned away and producing real, lasting results. Cookie cutter programs can produce results, but they have a ceiling. When training is built around your dog's strengths and your specific goals, that ceiling disappears. That is the standard we hold ourselves to with every dog that comes through our doors.
About the Owner
Instinctive K9 was founded by Nikitas Medrano, a Marine Corps veteran and professional dog trainer with a background spanning pet obedience, personal protection, and working dog development. Nikitas has a genuine passion for working with dogs at every level, from helping everyday pet owners build a well-mannered, reliable companion to developing fully operational protection dogs. He has trained and worked alongside experts in detection, protection sports, and police canine training and sales, bringing a well-rounded foundation to every dog and client he works with. Nikitas is an active competitor and training decoy in Protection Sports Association trials and holds a current certification as an explosives detection dog handler through the International Working Dog Training Association, having certified and run two dogs in that capacity. Whether you are starting from scratch with a new puppy or looking to take your dog's training to the next level, Nikitas built Instinctive K9 with the experience and the range to meet you where you are.
Why Choose Us
We will challenge your dog with new situations, but only once they have been set up to succeed. Our approach draws from a range of balanced training methods and practices refined over years of working with dogs of all types and backgrounds. Every dog teaches us something new, and it is our job to take all of that experience and build the best possible program for you and your dog.
At the end of the day, our goal is to help you get more out of life with your dog. That looks different for everyone. Maybe you want off-leash reliability so you can take your dog hiking or camping without the stress. Maybe you are interested in scent detection or tracking as a way to mentally challenge your dog and have fun with it. Maybe you just want to enjoy a walk around the neighborhood without being pulled down the street or dealing with reactivity. Whatever that looks like for you, we have the experience and the program to make it happen.
