Our experience with Nikitas Medrano and Instinctive K-9 dog training has been nothing short of life-changing.

We had been through a few trainers and figured we would give it one more go before we gave up and just accepted Jelly would never be a dog we could control on a leash. Extreme leash aggression and always being on high alert made every outing a stressful endeavor, most of the time even having to double up on the needed time just so she didn't encounter other dogs. But in only five lessons under Nikitas' wing. Jelly turned out to be a quiet, attentive walking buddy who could heel and barely react to other dogs, and on the few instances she did, a simple, easy correction was all that was needed.

Then there's Moose: our 40-pound Lab mix, whose sensibilities and obsession with scent meant every outing was an ordeal and required separate outings, many of which were undoable. With the great help of Nikitas, in only 3 weeks, Jelly and Moose—who have remained unmanageable under my 12 years of unprofessional training—learnt place, heel, stay, commands, crate training, and much more.

What sets Nikitas apart is not just his ability to train dogs, but his commitment to training dog owners as well. This was the turnaround lesson that there is no "magic bullet" in dog training; it is a constant commitment from the owner. “Instinctive K9 worked with our Giant Schnauzer, Jett, for 5 months. Jett was struggling with reactive behavior, leash pulling and typical puppy behavior. Prior to working with Jett, Nikitas asked us what our expectations were. Since our daughter participates in 4H, UKC, AKC, and agility, he focused on building the foundation as well teaching Jett how to be a family dog. During the time that Nikitas worked with Jett, he kept us up-to-date on Jett’s progress, sending pictures and videos. He worked with our daughter to incorporate the commands she will use.

Once Jett came home, Nikitas has worked with each family member so that we are familiar with the commands so that Jett’s training will continue to be consistent. He has had one on one lessons with our daughter so that she feels comfortable with the commands and how to best continue Jett’s training.

He takes that information and works with the dogs to figure out how best to approach the training to meet the owner/family expectations. “Even before we actually picked up our dog, we consulted with Nikitas on which breed to buy based upon his experience with training. I am glad we did as my son originally had his heart set on a Belgian Malinois, but while an amazing breed, Nikitas advised us that the breed would be more challenging and require a greater investment in training. We took his advice and ended up with a German Shepherd and we are very happy with the decision. The training through Nikitas has one of the best investments we ever made. We now have an incredibly well behaved dog that is amazing on or off leash. She responds so well to verbal commands that the e-collar isn’t required most of the time and she is very controllable even in the presence of herds of deer and rabbits just a few yards away. I would never try and train a dog on my own ever again as the results have never been close to what Nikitas was able to provide. While it seemed expensive up front, the investment was worth every penny!”
